The Torrevieja–Switzerland trip  that never took place.

Welcome back to the MyTransfer blog. In this article, we’ll share a somewhat different experience from the ones we usually have, which happened to us recently.

Service setup

We were contacted to request a quote for a rather special service.
It was a transfer from Torrevieja to Geneva (Switzerland), with a two-day stop in Baqueira to finalize the sale of a hotel.
The clients were a middle-aged couple.

After finalizing the details and accepting the quote, they themselves asked for our bank account number to make the payment by transfer and sent us a screenshot as supposed proof.
For services like this, we usually ask for 50% in advance, but since they took the initiative, we relaxed the procedure. The transfer hadn’t actually been made, but with one day to go before the service, we decided to take the risk.

Start of the service day

Pickup was scheduled for 8:00 a.m. in Torrevieja. We were departing from Valencia, and they were aware of that detail.
Javier, the assigned driver, contacted them via WhatsApp to introduce himself and stay in touch. That conversation turned out to be key, as it revealed the first change: at midnight they wrote to move the pickup from 8:00 to 11:00 because one of their mares had given birth and they needed to take care of the foal.

Waiting and errands

At 11:00 a.m. on the day of the service, Javier arrived at the указан address in a residential area of Playa de Orihuela. He notified the client he had been in contact with, who explained that her husband had had to go to Murcia to take the foal to a place where it could be cared for, as it had apparently been born with health problems.

They asked him to wait, to go have lunch, assuring him they would pay for the meal and the extra time. Javier went to a nearby restaurant and, while he was eating, the client who had stayed at home asked him to pick up two packs of cigarettes, two lighters, and two Coca-Colas.

Suspicious behavior

After finishing, Javier returned to deliver the items. The client came out wearing a bathrobe through the front patio, collected the items through the gate without opening the door, and told him she would pay him later for both the meal and the errand, adding that her husband was already on his way back.

While killing time by walking around the residential complex, Javier noticed the community noticeboard and was stunned when he read a notice from the latest neighbors’ meeting.

It said:

“Situation of the occupants of dwelling no. 105. Decisions to be taken.
It is hereby reported that the current occupants are not the owners of the property and are allegedly involved in illicit activities, in addition to having caused damage to the community’s access doors in order to keep them open and allow third parties to enter. There have been threats and assaults against neighboring residents. Legal action has been initiated.”

Confirmation and decision

Javier sent us the photo immediately. We asked him to speak to a neighbor and, when he did, everything was confirmed: troublesome people, constant problems, other taxis waiting for hours—one of them had even filed a complaint after having his mobile phone stolen.

The neighbors insisted that the best course of action was to call the police.
Four hours later, with no sign of the clients, the long trip still ahead and the return journey yet to be made, the decision was clear: return to Valencia. Powerlessness, anger, and disbelief in equal measure.

Final reflection

These situations are saddening, but they also teach us lessons. Looked at coldly, it makes no sense: what do they gain by causing so much harm with hardly any benefit? But that’s life. There are bad people out there, and this is one example. They occupy a property, destroy community life, harm professionals who are simply doing their job… and they will most likely go unpunished.

And that is how the story of the Torrevieja–Switzerland service that never happened came to an end.
